LAME

I had to go a full week without seeing Limerick, mostly because of fall break but also because this has turned into the week from hell homework-wise, and I finally got back out to the farm to see him and ride today. He didn't even look chestnut anymore... he was this weird dirty bay color and had turned into a wooly mammoth since I last saw him. I brought him in, saw where he had thrown a shoe on his left hind, and kind of thought he was walking funny, but hoped I was just imagining it.

So, I groomed him anyway, tacked up, and started walking around in the ring and he felt fine. However, as soon as he started trotting, he felt way off, like he was limping and trying to compensate for a sore foot. Collyn agreed, which made me very sad, because the farrier can't come out until Saturday to do his feet, meaning I have to go 4 more days without riding :( The good news is, we're going XC schooling for the first (real) time on Sunday!! S asked me after my lesson last week if I would consider doing a starter-level mini trial in early November, and I'm seriously considering it. My only concern is that I've never actually jumped any XC jumps, so I'll have to see how I feel about it after schooling on Sunday. Hopefully I'll get some pictures and videos to share!

The only real plus to this is that since I can't ride, I'm going to town on grooming. This includes either a full body clip or trace clip, as well as general things that I've neglected recently, like pulling his mane. I also may or may not have a lesson on Friday, depending on how sore he is... I'll keep you posted!

New saddle pad, in what I planned to be our XC colors (navy, light blue, white)

Random awesome picture that I took during my Bio lab field trip today

  1. You're body clipping lim yourself?

And make sure not to cut your fingers when pulling his mane ;) haha maybe gloves?

    1. Collyn's going to help! I sort of pulled his mane once since the show with no bloodshed... I think I pretty much learned my lesson! Thanks :)

  2. I find the best way to do manes is to take a clipper blade and use it as a pulling knife. Get the job done so much faster! And I love the saddle pad! I actually got that same pad for a friend of mine for her birthday!

    1. I'll try that! Hillary and I are referring to when I was first learning how to pull, and I sliced my fingers open with the sharp edge of the comb... it was awful! Thanks, I'm really happy with it :)

    1. thank you, he looks really good in navy, so I wanted to incorporate that! Thanks, he's now actually getting his shoe put back on tomorrow, which is awesome and will hopefully allow me to ride sooner than Saturday :)
