I got out of the meetings I was supposed to have today so that I could get back to school and still ride, since I work all day tomorrow and can't. Limerick was great but a little bit spooky, thanks to the circus that is currently going on at my farm... the pumpkin cannon that they claimed was going to be "quiet" actually makes this very loud and echo-y WOOSH sound that Lim does not like, and I can't really blame him. Combine that with the gun shots that were going off somewhere near the farm and my poor horse was barely holding it together. He was understandably distracted, but we still got some nice trot work and we got all of our "bad" direction (tracking right) canter leads, so I was happy. We also popped over a little X a couple of times and then walked around in the grass (FAR away from the cannon) to cool out.
My frustration comes from one, the pumpkin cannon and corn maze mess, but also from some of the other problems I've had recently with the farm manager. She goes out of town a lot and is in the Army Reserve, which is a big commitment that she puts before her job at the farm. She has cancelled my last three weeks of lessons and often won't respond to text messages if I send them after farm hours, even when they're important for Limerick's well being (such as when he throws a shoe). She has also let the outdoor arena footing deteriorate badly, to the point that it sounds like concrete when you trot around on it and it can't possibly be good for the horses' joints/feet. SO, instead of continuing to complain about it and do nothing, I've arranged to tour another farm in the area this Tuesday. I'm thrilled and seriously hoping to get out of my current farm sometime this week, provided I like the other farm. It's a little bit closer to school, which is great, and I know some girls in my grade who board there, which is also awesome :) I'll let you know how my visit goes... please keep your fingers crossed!

That sucks I hope that maybe you can find somewhere else that suits your needs better or that the current issues get resolved.
ReplyDeleteKeeping everything crossed for your barn tour - hope you find a more suitable arrangement sooner rather than later!

DeleteI just noticed this... I wonder why Houston's butt is about 4 shades lighter than everything else...
ReplyDeleteI hope that you love the farm! Did your dad get in touch with Elaine today?
haha I just texted you about this... Houston's butt is weirdly orange compared to the rest of his body!
