Home

It feels so good to be home :) After a ridiculously stressful school week, all I wanted to do today was go see my pony and play with my dogs. I also hadn't seen my family since I went back to school in late August, which so far is the longest I've gone without seeing them. I'm pretty sure my dogs remembered me, and I got to play with the kitten that my roommate and I irresponsibly adopted last year and then had to give up when our RA found out... definitely not something that I'm proud of and my dad is mad at me to this day, but we could not have chosen a better cat. His name is Rue and he thinks he's a dog, which sounds ridiculous but it's completely true. He terrorizes and chases our other cats and runs around with the dogs, playing with the ball and just being the adorable goober that he is.

Baby Rue... he has the prettiest eyes!
Not much to report in horsey news, other than I'm still in LOVE with my new saddle :) Limerick has spooked, carried on, and been silly in the past couple of days and my butt has not moved an inch out of that saddle... it's pretty wonderful. We had a great ride today, despite the fact that my farm has decided to moonlight as a Halloween-themed corn maze and fall festival, complete with, get this, a pumpkin cannon. What I want to know is who the hell thought of that brilliant idea at a horse farm?! Limerick has yet to see it, but I'm quite certain that he's going to flip his shit, particularly as it shoots out a pumpkin every hour on the hour. The best part? The farm manager wants to give riders some fair warning, so five minutes before the cannon is due to go off, they plan to sound a bull horn. Because that makes it SO much better.

Since I'm home, I get to visit Hillary and Houston tomorrow and play photographer. Hopefully the weather will be decent so that she can ride outside. Taking pictures in an indoor is basically impossible thanks to the truly terrible lighting. I can't wait to be back at my home barn, and I'll most likely have some cute pictures to upload tomorrow night :)

    1. haha yeah, apparently not... they claimed that it was "quiet" but it actually makes this giant WOOSH noise, which is just fabulous! Oh and the pumpkins shoot towards the outdoor ring =|

    1. Yeah I'm not thrilled... they've been so unaccommodating about it that I'm actually touring another farm on Tuesday (the one without an indoor) because I can't take this ridiculousness for a full month! One of my friends rode Limerick for me yesterday and actually fell off dismounting because right when she swung her leg over, the cannon went off. She's ok, but that was kind of the last straw for me!

  4. Pumpkin cannon & corn maze sound crazy near horses, mine would def loose her life seeing as she not the biggest fan of the corn fields that surround her turnout area and we've to hack past to go into the woods.
Sometimes you do have to question the common sense of those who run a horse barn and think a canon going off every hour with a five minute fog horn warning is a good idea!

    1. yeah, I'm definitely questioning their common sense... Limerick is mostly sane and reasonable about scary things, but they can't expect any horse to be calm about the madness they have going on right now!

    1. It was hard to find it funny in the moment, but it's definitely hilarious now that I don't have to deal with it anymore!
