Fire Breathing Pony

Yesterday, Kimmie and I went for a lovely hack out into some of the fields adjacent to CVF. Neither of us had been that way before, so we didn't really know what to expect, but it was gorgeous! Lots of uneven and steep terrain, which definitely made me get out of my comfort zone. We even crossed a little stream, which Limerick boldly stepped over, even after Jazz threw a mini tantrum. I was so proud of my baby pony for being brave, and it certainly didn't hurt that Jazz (the 10 year old b-r-o-k-e QH) was a little bit reluctant to go through the water. Fire breathing pony refers to Limmers being all "snortSNORTsnortSNORTsnort;" he's quite the drama llama, but that was the extent of his excitement. The ride was luckily uneventful (other than a "stressful" encounter between Jazz and a random wooden box) and a really nice/relaxing end to a stressful school day. I did make sure to take lots of pictures, since I feel like I've been slacking lately and not taking enough pictures of my own horse..

  1. That's ironic because I was looking at buying the exact same quarter sheet, and I just barely bought a bit very similar to that one. I haven't tried the bit out yet, since I've never used a full-cheek. Why did you decide to switch bits? Great pictures by the way!

    1. I had actually never even considered switching bits until the disastrous dressage clinic a few weeks ago, where the clinician explained to me that a loose ring wasn't really helping me at all in terms of getting him on the bit and maintaining contact because it could slip through his mouth and it was too easy to evade. The full cheek also helps a lot with steering, because sometimes it can be hard to get his ginormous body exactly where I want it to go. Thank you :) I'm just glad that Limerick stays still long enough for me to take them!

    1. I love my quarter sheet! Not sure how Limerick feels about it, but it certainly looks fab and doesn't seem to bother him too much :)

  4. Love the quarter sheet! It better snow over break and we can go gallivanting in the snow with our quarter sheets on the ponies :)

I still haven't used mine yet... Maybe I will try it this weekend. LOVE THE PICTURES :)

I guess you lately have had a lot more pictures of Hue and I than you and the Limsters!

    1. yesyesyes!! Although I'm having disturbing mental images from the Horse Whisperer, but I guess as long as we don't ride anywhere near a road...

thanks, I was really glad I brought my phone with me and that Limmers stood still long enough for me to take them :)
