I had a lovely day today :) Hillary, Kimmie, Kristen, Collyn, and I went to a yummy breakfast with Kristen's parents and then headed to the farm. I rode in Collyn's dressage saddle (thank you, you're the best!!), and Limmerface was a star, despite the rather intense vet experience he had yesterday. We kept it light, mostly working on trot work and allowing me to acclimate to the new saddle. I've decided that it's incredibly comfy and awesome, but not at all suited for someone with a thigh bone as long as mine. Nevertheless, it was still fun and allowed me to actually sit Limerick's canter! It also made me want a dressage saddle even more now... Then, Hill hopped on and schooled some lateral movements and canter transitions, for which Lim was also a good boy.
The title of the post relates to the events that followed, i.e. our trip to the world's best tack shop. Living in an incredibly small town and being a crazy-busy college student means that I don't shop very much, other than occasional online browsing for something specific. Therefore, when I get within a certain distance of a real town, with real stores, I kinda can't control myself... I binge. Now, today wasn't all that bad. I walked out with a boucher bit, new spur straps and this lovely:
ECOGOLD!!!
I'm happy with the three-ring that we've used recently, but I don't want to rely on it too much. However, Limerick is so strong (and I'm not strong enough at this point) that I still needed a little bit of leverage to prevent him from tearing my arms off in downward transitions. I love it already, and my plan is to alternate every couple of rides, switching up my bits. I think I'll mostly use the three-ring for jumping and the boucher for flat work, especially because it's dressage legal, which was also one of the reasons I started hunting for a new bit.
Lesson tomorrow, so report back to read about that :) Hill and Kimmie both agreed to document it, though the weather might not be ideal so we'll see what happens. I'll leave you with some pictures and videos from today!
Proud of this one :) Our first ride in the boucher bit, which Hillary lent me to see if I liked
